Representative Devin Nunes committed a crime by notifying Donald Trump of sensitive information without telling other members of the Intelligence Committee. Representative Elijah Cummings has had enough and is calling for an investigation into this apparent “cover-up”.
Nunes is the Chairman of the House Intelligence Committee that is currently investigating the Trump administration for its ties to Russia. The committee receives sensitive information from the intelligence communities that support their investigations.
Congress and the American people expect the members of this committee to keep their mouths closed until it completes its investigation. Divulging sensitive information could endanger the credibility of an investigation and cause irreparable harm.
Well, Nunes did not get the memo that things are on the hush-hush. Earlier this week, he went to the White House to tell President Trump that there was some information implicating members of his administration with Russia.
Yes, Nunes delivered the sensitive information to Trump, who is also part of the FBI’s investigation. It looks like Nunes being the little Trumpeteer got him in trouble.
Along with that, Nunes held a mini-press conference where he told everyone that the FBI does have surveillance reports on the Trump team, and they obtained these reports legally through FISA warrants. Folks, Nunes confirmed that the Trump team was in communication with foreign agents, and they are all guilty of treason.
This speaking to the press proves that Nunes isn’t too smart and should not be the chairman of such an important committee as the Intelligence Committee. His actions show that he lacks intelligence.
Among those criticizing Nunes’ actions was the ranking Minority Member of the House Intelligence Committee Adam Schiff. Schiff was polite but showed his aggravation in a statement.
He said that it is not common practice to discuss an investigation with the target of the investigation, President Trump, and that members of the committee need to know what he had before he went public.
Nunes did issue an apology and said that he would not release any information before discussing it with Schiff and other committee members.
But Elijah Cummings, who was the ranking minority member of the Benghazi Committee, was not so kind. Cummings said the following on CNN:
“I was the ranking member of the Benghazi committee, and we would have never allowed that to happen. The Intelligence panel is a very special committee. They are privileged to information that most members of Congress may never see and so you expect them to be extremely confidential. What he did was basically to go to the president, who’s being investigated, by the FBI and others and by the intelligence committee, to give them information.
“Basically, what he has done is he has scuttled and put a cloud over his own investigation and he has become the subject basically, he should be, of an investigation. It’s a real problem” railed Cummings.
And Cummings is correct—Nunes is a pawn of the White House and will do whatever Trump wants. Nunes’ actions sabotage the entire investigation and show the world that Nunes is a partisan hack who cares more about his party than his country.
Trump’s latest popularity ratings are very low, so it is obvious that Americans no longer have tolerance for his lies and stonewalling. It is time for a special prosecutor and a nonpartisan, independent investigation into Trump’s Russian ties and Nunes’ unprofessional actions.
And, if found guilty of treason, both Trump and Nunes need to be impeached, tried, and imprisoned for their crimes. And if you had enough of trump’s lies and Republican stonewalling, call your elected representatives and let them know. And while you’re at, share this article on Facebook.
